Fried has traveled to Swedish schools for over 30 years to talk about his experiences. She has been deeply involved in issues of democracy and awareness of racism.
As a child, Fried was deported to Auschwitz with his parents. They were gassed to death, while she and her sister survived. In 1945 they both came to Sweden.
Sunday’s death prompted a series of comments to be posted on Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s social media accounts. This is because Kristersson is accused of breaking a promise he allegedly made to Fried before the 2018 election not to cooperate with the Sweden Democrats (SD).
