Not long ago, Toyota Global launched the latest generation of its legendary hybrid model, the Prius. Meanwhile in Indonesia, in the near future they will bring a hybrid version of the Toyota Kijang Innova.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Toyota’s line of electrified cars is currently dominated by hybrid cars, and the choice of pure battery electric cars (BEVs) is very limited. However, it turned out to be part of the strategy.
Simultaneously with the launch of the All New Prius, Akio Toyoda as President of Toyota Motor Corporation emphasized the importance of hybrid car lines in the current era.
Not excluding pure electric cars, Toyoda said the presence of the hybrid line made the choice of green cars diversified.
“BEVs are an important solution, but not always the best choice for everyone. In a different world, we need a variety of choices,” Akio Toyoda said in a statement titled Why Do We Still Make Hybrid Cars? The mission of the All New Prius on the Toyota Times page.
Still in relation to the launch of the Prius, according to Toyota, many people are wondering how much longer they will produce hybrid cars.
In response to this, Akio was adamant that the hybrid model and the Prius were models that needed to be kept.
The presence of the Prius since 1997 has managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 162 million tons.
Since the presence of this legendary line, Toyota has recorded that it has sold its hybrid line of 20.3 million units.
Toyota claims the Prius is a new standard hybrid model in the automotive world. Since its inception, the Prius has been widely adopted by automakers other than Toyota.
“Since then, hybrid technology has been adopted and developed not only by Toyota, but by the entire auto industry. The Prius opened the door to a different way of thinking,” wrote Toyota.
However, Toyota continues to race in the pure electric car arena as well. They are now focusing on the “beyond zero” or bZ project for their BEV line.
“And here in 2022, times have changed, not a day goes by without talking about the path to carbon neutrality. But beyond hybrids, BEVs also achieve major technological advances and consolidate their position as the standard of the future,” he stated Toyota.
Talking about Indonesian market, currently Toyota’s BEV line is only available in bZ4X option. Beyond that, pure electric cars from Toyota, not yet for the general public. While the hybrid line, Toyota has Corolla Cross Hybrid, CH-R Hybrid, Camry Hybrid, up to Altis Hybrid.
