Former Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad bite your fingers after losing is deep Malaysian elections 2022, Sunday (11/20). This defeat became Mahathir’s nightmare which is nearly a century old.
The 97-year-old lost in his long-standing constituency of Langkawi. This was Mahathir’s first electoral defeat in more than half a century, 53 years to be exact.
Figures from the Malaysian KPU show Mahathir won 4,566 votes and lost his deposit. He took fourth place in the electoral alias, losing badly to Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 13,518 votes out of 25,463.

Mahathir Mohamad or Datuk Seri Mahathir bin Mohamad was born on July 10, 1925, though the official record says December 20, 1925. He was born in Alor Setar, Kedah, Malaysia. He is the son of a school principal named Mohamad Iskandar. His mother Wan Tempawan Wan Hanapi. Mahathir Mohamad born into a Muslim family.
The senior Malaysian politician studied at Sultan Abdul Hamid College and King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore. After graduating from medical school in 1953, he served as a government medical officer until 1957 before opening his own practice.
His political progress has been recorded since 1946 when Mahathir joined the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), i.e. the dominant party in the ruling ruling coalition. Mahathir was first elected to parliament in 1964.
However, he had to be willing to lose his parliamentary seat and was expelled from UMNO in 1969. The reason for this was that Mahathir’s strong advocacy of ethnic Malay nationalism brought him into conflict with Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Two years later, there was a new economic policy adopted by the government to improve the economic situation which embodied many of the ideas Mahathir suggested. Eventually, he returned to UMNO.
Mahathir was even directly elected to the UMNO Supreme Council in 1972 and became a Senator in Parliament a year later before finally being elected Minister of Education in 1974.
