After the French Football Federation announced on Saturday that striker Karim Benzema has been excluded from his country’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar after picking up an injury in training, the star broke his silence.
The celebrated French national team player, who is of Algerian descent, commented on the decision through his Instagram account, noting that he usually never gives up, but this time he had to show the club’s interest first.
He said: “In my life I have never given up, but tonight I have to think about the team as I always do, so reasons tell me to leave my post for someone who can help our team achieve a wonderful World Cup.. Thank you for all support messages”.

While France coach Didier Deschamps announced his sadness at the incident, saying: “I’m very sad for Karim, who made the World Cup a great goal for him.”
He expressed his confidence in the national team despite this new blow, stressing: “We will do our best to face the great challenge that awaits us.”

He confirmed that the decision came after ascertaining that the player had a muscle injury to his left thigh, and for this reason it was decided to officially exclude him from participating in the World Cup.

Benzema performed admirably for Real Madrid last season, scoring 44 goals in 46 games in all competitions to help the team to La Liga and Champions League doubles.
He was also France’s top scorer at the 2014 World Cup, but was not involved in the team’s victory at the 2018 World Cup, having only returned to the French national team last year after a 6-year absence.
France, who will already be without Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante as well as Christopher Nkunku through injury, open Group D against Australia on Tuesday.
