The medical, administrative and nursing staff of the Doris Center for Mother and Child Health, with the participation of the head of the Union of Municipalities of Baalbek, Shafiq Qassem Shehadeh, and social activists, staged a protest against the theft of solar panels from the roof of the downtown building last friday night.
It should be noted that the center in the city of Durres, which was built with a grant from the government of the Principality of Monaco, following the efforts made by the Governor of Baalbek-Hermel Bashir Khedr and the municipality of Durres to carry out this important project, was managed since its inauguration in 2019 by the Amel International Foundation in collaboration with the “Fondacion Mirio”, and provides medical visits and services, almost free medicines for about 1,000 patients a month.
The doctors, management and staff of the centre, with the participation of the head of the Union of Municipalities of Baalbek Shafiq Shehadeh staged a sit-in in front of the center to protest the theft.

Shehadeh expressed her regret and denunciation of “this shameful and irresponsible act to which the center has been subjected, in terms of the theft of solar panels. We work to provide health services to our people in Dors and its residents, and to all those who come to the center from the people of the region”.
He stressed that “what the center has been subjected to is a violation of the sanctity of a humanitarian health institution, and we call on all security forces to play their role and duty to find out the perpetrators and impose the strictest sanctions on them.” “.

In turn, the director of the center, Dareen Al-Ahmar, said: “The center was the object, in the night of Thursday-Friday, of the theft of 12 solar panels, and this attack on a humanitarian health center, one of the centers managed by Amel International Foundation in Lebanon, to provide health and medical services and alleviate the suffering of our people in light of these economic and life difficulties that our country, Lebanon, is going through, and all health and social actors and all groups and segments of society, we denounced it, and we ask the security forces to play their role in exposing the perpetrators.
