“The baby is shrinking in his thigh and calf muscles, and indeed there is no history of immunization, no history of contact travel and no travel outside,” Maxi said in Jakarta on Saturday (11/19), quoted by Antara.
Maxi also revealed the symptoms experienced by a seven-year-old boy who was infected with the type two polio virus. The child, she said, had symptoms of paralysis in his left leg, fever and flu starting Oct. 6, 2022.
After the feeling of weakness in his left leg did not subside, the boy was taken to Teuku Chik Ditiro Hospital, Sigli. He was treated until 18 October.
As the situation did not improve, the hospital pediatrician became suspicious of the signs of polio and decided to make an evaluation.
The results of these samples began to be sent to the center on October 21-22, 2022. The test results stated that the child was positive for polio type 2 and type 3 for Sabin.
“After the sample was sent to the center, it was examined and the PCR results came out on Nov. 7, and it was found to be polio type 2, and there was Sabin type 3,” Maxi said.
According to Maxi, the patient is now able to walk although he needs to be assisted by physiotherapy to restore the paralyzed muscle mass.
“Yesterday we checked the condition of your little girl, and she has started walking again even if she is still limping. In fact, there are no medicines, but then we will only need physiotherapy to maintain muscle mass,” he said.
