The longer section of the line to Munich has been approved by the Ministry of the Interior. It should be completed by 2030

In sections Stod – Holýšov and Blížejov – Domažlice a new construction is planned for speeds up to 200 km/h.

The railway administration has passed an important milestone in the preparation of the major modernization of the line from Pilsen via Domažlice to Germany. The Ministry of Environment has currently approved the transformation of the Stod (external) – Domažlice (inclusive) section into the EIA process. This is the longest stretch of the entire modernization project, which was also the last without the approval of the Ministry of the Interior. According to the submitted documentation, it will be constructed from September 2026 to May 2030. This construction will complete the entire track upgrade.

“Now let’s continue with the documentation for the zoning decision”, the Railroad Administration said. It will be a combination of new construction and improvements to the current runway. The section measures about 35 kilometres, in some sections the maximum speed should reach up to 200 km/h. On the Stod – Holýšov and Blížejov – Domažlice sections, new construction is planned for speeds up to 200 km/h, while on the Holýšov – Staňkov – Blížejov and Domažlice – Pasečnice sections, the original line will remain. The existing route in the sections Stod – Holýšov and Blížejov – Domažlice will be cancelled.

The 1861 line is single track and non-electrified. “Since its inception, the track has not been substantially modified or modernized”, it is written in the documentation. Therefore, the object of construction is mainly to be double-tracked and electrified.

Part of the construction is the modification of the Domažlice cape of the Stod station, the reconstruction of the Holýšov, Staňkov and Domažlice stations and the construction of the new Pasečnice railway station. The current Blížejov station will
canceled and replaced by a new Přívozec branch (stop Blížejov in new location). The section includes, inter alia, 43 bridges.

The whole plan for improving the line from Pilsen to the border near Česká Kubica is divided into four constructions. The first construction is the new construction of the line (18.5 km) from Pilsen to Stod (inclusive). Here, too, you can drive up to 200 km/h. According to the original project it was to be carried out between 2023 and 2026, currently the interactive map of the Railway Administration shows the years from 2025 to 2029. The project has already passed the EIA process with a favorable opinion from the Ministry of the Environment.

The second construction is the modernization and electrification of the old line through Nýřany (12.3 km), which will remain preserved even after the transfer from Pilsen is completed. Expected to be built here between 2024 and 2026, construction does not have to go through the EIA process.

The third construction is the section Stod – Domažlice and the 4th construction is the last section Domažlice (exterior) – st. at the border of the Federal Republic of Germany, where the implementation is expected between 2026 and 2028. This section has undergone the investigation procedure, with the fact that it does not need to enter the major EIA process, as it will not have a great impact on the surrounding environment.
