Max Verstappen will start from pole position at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday. His teammate Sergio Pérez will start at the Yas Marina circuit from second position on the grid.
Verstappen clocked a 1.23.824 in the final part of qualifying and was thus 0.228 seconds faster than his Mexican teammate.
The second row is for the Ferrari drivers. Charles Leclerc set the third fastest time, 0.268 behind Verstappen. Carlos Sainz finished fourth, four tenths off the best time.
The Mercedes drivers were unable to keep up with the leaders in qualifying. Lewis Hamilton conceded nearly seven tenths to Verstappen with the fifth fastest time. George Russell was three thousandths slower than his teammate.
Vettel drives well in the final qualifying
Sebastian Vettel finished ninth on the grid in his final qualifying, equaling his best starting position in 2022. The Aston Martin German will bid farewell to Formula 1 on Sunday. In many qualifying sessions this year the German has finished outside the top ten, but Vettel made a splash in Abu Dhabi.
Daniel Ricciardo finished his final qualifying session for McLaren in tenth place. The Australian will normally be hired by Red Bull next season as a reserve driver.
