US bombers return to the Korean peninsula

Seoul

A B-1B strategic bomber belonging to the Air Force United States of America (USA) redeployed to the Korean Peninsula. US bombers will participate in joint air exercises with South Korea (South Korea), the next day North Korea (North Korea) launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

“South Korea and the United States conducted joint air exercises today with US Air Force B-1B strategic bombers redeploying to the Korean peninsula,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement. AFP extensionSaturday (19/11/2022).

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said a number of more advanced fighter aircraft from the US and South Korean air force fleets, including the F-35 stealth jet, were also participating in the joint air exercise.

The deployment of the B-1B bombers is the second time in at least the last month. The same type of aircraft belonging to the US Air Force participated in the last day of the joint US-South Korea exercise called Watchful storm in early November.

Watchful storm The annual exercise, originally scheduled to run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, was extended to Nov. 5 after North Korea launched its missiles earlier this month.

The Pyongyang regime is known to be highly responsive to joint South Korean-US air exercises, with pundits judging it because the isolated nation’s air force is the weakest link in its military ranks, lacking high-tech jets and lacking well trained pilots.

In the past, North Korea has been angered by US deployments of strategic weapons, such as US B-1B bombers and US carrier strike groups, which have been deployed near the Korean peninsula in times of high tension.
