When Anna Swenn-Larsson finished fifth in the first slalom in Levi last year, it was after a 21-month absence from the World Cup.
But at the Olympics, a couple of months later, she finished ninth in disappointment, and looking at the whole comeback season, it was “only” a podium finish.
This year when winter is The alpine season has finally begun for the women, the Swedish star had to cheer immediately.
After the first race in the Finnish Levi, she finished second, 45 cents behind the German leader Lena Dürr but ten ahead of the American star Mikaela Shiffrin.
In the second run Shiffrin shifted gears and took the 75th World Cup win of her career. But Swenn-Larsson took second place, 16 cents behind, when Dürr missed out on the podium. Third Petra Vlhova, Slovakia.
– I feel motivated and excited, Swenn Larsson told DN ahead of the World Cup premiere.
Winter includes a WC in France.
– But I also have a big goal to be able to complete the World Cup for a whole season.
Behind the 2019 WC runner-up Swedish Olympic number one in giant slalom, Sara Hector, continued to prove that she can ski in slalom as well. The climb from ninth to seventh meant her third best slalom result in her 13-year World Cup career.
At the same time, 19-year-old Hanna Aronsson Elfman set a personal best. From starting number 36, Aronsson Elfman finished eighth after the first race, and then finished ninth.
More Swedes then? Liv Ceder missed advancement to moto two by just four cents. Neither Estelle Alphand, Moa Boström-Müssener or 17-year-old debutant Cornelia Öhlund qualified for the final.
The next opportunity, however, will already come on Sunday, even then in Levi.
