“Florida man makes announcement”. It is with these words that the American tabloid New York Post announced, at the bottom of its November 16 front page, the return of Donald Trump in the next US elections.
To find out more about the news, browse the newspaper on page 26, where a short satirical note tells us that “With just 720 days left until the next election, a Florida retiree surprisingly announced on Tuesday evening that he would run for president” The former US president is also described as a “golf enthusiast” before the paper specifies his name: Donald J. Trump.
Also, the To send says Trump’s announcement was made at Mar-a-Lago, “his resort and classifieds library”, humorous reference to the discovery of classified documents top secret in the billionaire’s mansion and recovered from FBI last August.
The media empire owned by Rupert Murdoch, which includes the New York PostFox News and the Wall Street Journal – supported Donald Trump before and during his presidential term. But the tide seems to have turned since the midterm elections, where the Republican surge it did not materialize. According to several media, including the KeeperRupert Murdoch allegedly warned Donald Trump that his media industry would not support his return to the White House.

The title reacted on social networks. A Twitter account parodying Donald Trump enjoyed comparing the cover of the To send of 2022 with that of 1990. At the time, the real estate tycoon, in the midst of a divorce from Ivana, had ordered the tabloid to appear on the front page, when his pregnant ex-wife had just realized that of New York Daily Newsreported in 2018 a former journalist of the To send in the Hollywood reporter.
A media flop
Beyond the disagreement between Murdoch and Trump, the latter’s candidacy for the presidency of the United States in 2024 has aroused little enthusiasm in the American press, the announcement of his return sometimes even being absent from the front pages of the main newspapers.
