Adriana Karembeu in Avignon on 10 September 2022 for World First Aid Day

For the French Red Cross,

80% of French people should be trained in life saving gestures.

Adriana Karembeu will be present in Avignon, Place du Palais, to encourage the public to learn

first aid from 2 pm on Saturday 10 September!*

Today, only 40% of French people are trained in life-saving gestures.* This is not enough. When we know that the first potential victim, everyone is also the first witness and therefore the first to be able to intervene pending the arrival of help. After last year dedicated to initiations for children, this year World First Aid Day is aimed at everyone because there are no age limits for training. This learning is accessible to all and it is important to do it throughout life. See you everywhere in France on September 10 to learn about life-saving gestures with the volunteers of the association and with Adriana Karembeu in Avignon in the Vaucluse.

The data speaks for itself: 80% of the French believe they are unprepared or poorly prepared for crises and disasters** yet only 40% are trained in first aid.

Heart attacks, domestic accidents, natural disasters, even health crises… every citizen in France, as in the world, can be faced with an emergency situation. This year, World First Aid Day (WWD) will take place on Saturday 10 September. The French Red Cross invites everyone, young and old, everywhere in France around the theme “Learning life-saving gestures”.

While nearly a third of French people say they feel unable to give first aid*, French Red Cross volunteers will be mobilized to educate and train children and adults in first aid, emergency heart disease and risk reduction free of charge. . .

Adriana Karembeu, ambassador of the association, will travel to Avignon, capital of the Vaucluse. A department which has a very high percentage of population exposed to flooding and which is particularly sensitive to the culture of risk, almost 30 years after the Vaison-la-Romaine tragedy.

Knowing how to anticipate, prepare for and avoid dangers, but also knowing how to react and implement the right actions can save lives. The citizen is the first link in the rescue chain. In 9 out of 10 emergency situations, the life of a loved one is at stake, but the training rate of the French population is among the lowest in Europe.

If 2 out of 3 French people want to be trained in life-saving gestures, only slightly more than 40% do so, while they are more than 80% in some European countries such as Norway, Austria or Germany*.

Learning first aid throughout life is essential. This training is for everyone, regardless of their personal situation or age. Every person has the opportunity to save lives and make their environment safer. From an early age, children can practice basic first aid such as calling for help and using emergency numbers. As for the elderly, who are particularly vulnerable to home accidents and heart attacks, for example, they can participate in saving lives in their communities.

On Saturday September 10, 2022, the French Red Cross increases the possibilities for the general public to learn free first aid gestures, risk reduction or even first aid initiations for young children, but also to learn more about the activities of the French Red Cross and maybe even discover the soul of a rescuer and join the ranks of the French Red Cross as a volunteer.

And for those who wish to go further, it is also possible to register throughout the year for the training sessions offered within the different structures of the Red Cross throughout France: Prevention and Civic Aid Level 1 (PSC1), Introduction to the First Child and Infant Relief (IPSEN), learn more at www.croix-rouge.fr
