The 23-year-old, who has come through Chelsea’s youth academy, was in talks for a contract extension with the Blues, but they have been suspended until the end of the World Cup.
This comes with the England international’s current deal due to expire in the summer of 2024.
With time constraints remaining in mind, the clubs were prompted to consider whether they could move Mount away from Stamford Bridge where contract talks had been ongoing since the summer.
Chelsea’s owners have no desire to lose Mount, who they see as a future Blues captain, and remain optimistic he will stay as they look to reward his performance with a better deal.
Even so, a deal isn’t guaranteed as Mount is currently among Chelsea’s lowest earners and wants a deal to reflect his status as one of Graham Potter’s most influential players.
Chelsea’s offers have so far fallen short of expectations as Juventus and Liverpool stand by as they hope to refresh their respective midfielders.
Manchester City have also been linked to the Mount before, although the club’s close attention could bring more urgency to Chelsea, especially as they lost Antonio Rudiger et Andreas Christensen for free last summer when Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante – The best of N’Golo Kante et JorginhoContracts expire at the end of this campaign.
