‘I See You’: 24/7 Preterm Baby Monitoring

The Ureka Mega Challenge finalists won on November 16 with “I See You”. This will enable NICU caregivers to continuously record live babies’ behavior using artificial intelligence (AI) technology with a webcam in the future. And we can provide the best possible care for newborns. What a beautiful innovation; this will further aid the cure.

All projects were judged promising by the Dragons, the judging panel, but the winner ‘I See You’, according to the Dragons, deserves the award for their enormous (substantial) motivation, the entrepreneurial atmosphere that prevails within the team and the development that the team has gone through in the past period during the Ureka trajectory. “There has been very clever use of existing, data-driven technology to help our younger patients,” the Dragons said.

Winnaars ‘I see you’

The ‘I See You’ team wants to connect artificial intelligence (AI) technology to 24/7 monitoring of premature babies in the incubator of Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital (WKZ). In this way, caregivers recognize sleep, pain, vomiting or retching, and discomfort. This allows nurses to intervene in a more appropriate way, to adjust treatment times to the child’s sleep-wake rhythm. They don’t have to be with the baby all the time to check if everything is okay.

Proud faces

With proud faces, Jeroen and Chanel from the “I See You” team received the checks (together 50,000 euros), with which they can take their innovation idea to the next step. Jeroen and Chanel: “It’s fantastic! We are extremely proud of our team and all the people who have contributed to this. Let’s think of the parents, the nurses, but also the Dragons who trained us. It’s great that the Dragons are confident in the impact our innovation can have and it was very exciting as we faced three very good finalists. As far as we’re concerned, they all won first prize, because they’re all good ideas and beautiful presentations!”
