A country is only as strong as its people, Foreign Minister stressed at a celebratory event at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MA), which was held to mark the 104th anniversary of Latvia’s proclamation Edgars Rinkevics (JV).

The minister stressed that step by step, just like when the Latvian state was founded, many difficulties were overcome and it was possible to develop one’s country and statehood.
Rinkēvičs thanked the employees of the diplomatic service of Latvia and foreign friends, and all those who strengthen Latvia every day with their work and build friendly relations.
Attended the event Prime Minister and government representatives, Saima And European parliamentarians, foreign diplomatic corps, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cooperation partners and media representatives.
A musical performance was that of the Latvian Diplomatic Choir, which has been operating at the Ministry since 26 January 2016 – the 95th anniversary of the international “de jure” recognition of the Latvian state under the guidance of conductor Katrīnas Jēkabsones. Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, their relatives and friends, as well as representatives of accredited foreign embassies in Latvia sing in the choir.
During the event, those present were able to view the project “The blanket of stories” created by the “Latvies in the World” museum and research center, a large-format textile mosaic made up of more than a thousand squares of fabric and which reflects the unity of Diaspora Latvians and their life outside Latvia. Pieces of the story quilt have traveled to Latvia since African, ASV, Australian, AsianSouth American, European, New Zeland And Canadian. It is accompanied by an interactive multimedia presentation about the creator of each square.
In honor of the 104th anniversary of the foundation of the Latvian state around the world – from Brazilian in Australia – there are events organized and supported by Latvian embassies and representative offices, representatives of the Latvian diaspora and other cooperation partners.
On November 18, 1918, the solemn meeting for the proclamation of Latvia began at 4.30 pm in the Second Theater of the city of Riga, now the Latvian National Theater. In it, Latvia was declared an independent and democratic country, which made it possible to create a temporary government of Latvia and start the creation of the state apparatus. By declaring the Republic of Latvia, the right to self-determination of the Latvian people was realized.
