Opening of the National Leadership Conference of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) at Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung State Islamic University (UIN), East Java, colored by chaos on Thursday evening (17/11). The video of the riot went viral on social media.
In the circulating video, the chaos ensued as Deputy Minister of the cult Zainut Tauhid Saadi was starting his speech. Participants were seen pointing at each other, pushing each other to throw chairs at each other.
The female participants who attended the Muspimnas appeared to be trying to avoid the chaos.
The moment of chaos was recorded in the live coverage of the opening of the Muspimnas which was broadcast on the PMII YouTube channel.
Initially, Zainut greeted the figures present, starting with DPR Deputy Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, Tulungagung Regent, UIN Chancellor Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah to the Polres and Dandim.
When Zainut was about to greet the PBNU officials present, he abruptly cut short his speech. You can see the attendees passing by at the time before the broadcast was finally shut down.
Contacted separately, Tulungagung Police Public Relations Chief Iptu Muhammad Anshori confirmed the incident. He said the incident started when a student party wanted to meet the figures who were present at the event.
“He wanted to ask to meet one of the figures first. Well actually he wanted to be accepted but only as a representative but the other students don’t want to have to meet together,” Ashori told CNNIndonesia.com.
However, Ashori assured that conditions at PMII Muspimnas are currently favourable. The meeting agenda has been rescheduled.
“The trial has just passed. Now it’s safe. Now the activities have started again and it’s favorable,” he said.
PMII Muspimnas at UIN Tulungagung will be held from 17 to 24 November 2022.
