ANNOUNCEMENTS••Edited
The road is busy this morning due to rain and accidents, reports the ANWB. Around 08:00 there were 940 kilometers of traffic jam. This makes it the busiest morning rush hour this year.
Because of the rain, people drive slower, resulting in longer traffic jams. Also, there have been accidents on several highways. Things went badly on the A27 near Werkendam and the A8 at the Coenplein interchange towards Amsterdam.
On the A1 between Bathmen and Twello there was a 12 kilometer traffic jam at around 08.30 after an accident. People should expect over an hour delay there
Busy evening rush hours are also expected
According to the ANWB, Thursday is still a busy day on the road and November is traditionally one of the busiest months of the year. “Many people then go to work. Their vacation days are over or they are saving them for the month of December,” says a Rijkswaterstaat spokesperson.
There were still not many more accidents than average this morning, but because people drive slower due to rain and darkness, traffic jams happen faster, says Rijkswaterstaat.
It may well be that tonight will also be a very busy evening rush hour, as it continues to rain across much of the country. “All those people have to go home too. We think the crowds will start early, around 3.30pm. If the weather continues like this, we can have a very heavy evening rush hour,” says Rijkswaterstaat.
Tips for working from home
The ANWB and the Rijkswaterstaat had already counted on a busier rush hour and therefore advised working from home if possible.
It was also busy on Tuesday; then in the evening there were more than 600 kilometers of traffic jam. Tuesday and Thursday are the busiest days of the week in travel.
