Scientists have recently revealed the possibility that the Sun and Earth will disappear in about 10 billion years.
The sun is one of the most important parts for all living things, especially on Earth. Almost all life on Earth depends on the Sun. However, the Sun will not exist forever. Scientists recently revealed when the Sun and Earth are likely to vanish.
According to a study published in 2018, the Sun and the Earth are expected to disappear in about 10 billion years. Even if it’s just a prediction, scientists already imagine exactly how the event will play out.
In the diary Nature astronomythese scientists revealed that the Sun and Earth would die when the Sun produced an explosion, leaving behind a planetary nebula, as quoted by BGR extension (17/11).
Of course, that’s not the whole picture. Other studies on this topic state that the total death of the Sun is still trillions of years away. However, it is estimated that in about another 5 billion years the Sun will eat up most of its hydrogen core, becoming a red giant. When that happens, the Sun will stop producing heat.
Due to this event, the core of the Sun will become unstable, expanding outward and engulfing even the closest planets such as Mercury and Venus. Therefore, the Earth also has the potential to die, because the Earth’s magnetic field will be stripped, which will effectively tear apart the Earth’s atmosphere.
This is a scary thought. Whether the Sun and the Earth die in five or 10 billion years, no one can say for sure. But at least we know it won’t happen anytime soon.
Instead, what really needs to be concerned about is the ongoing climate change crisis, which is already threatening to change the planet we live on.
