Toney is suspected of breaking the rules from 2017 to 2021. He has been playing for Brentford since 2020. If found guilty, the FA can fine the player, suspend him and, as a last resort, ban him for life.
In the Premier League this season, Toney has scored 10 goals, including both in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester City, and is the third highest goalscorer in the competition. In September he was called up to the English national team for the Nations League matches, but he did not make his debut and was not even a candidate for the World Cup.
