Lewandowski suspended for 3 games

Jakarta

Striker Barcelona Robert Lewandowski punished for making fun of the referee after receiving a red card in the match against Osasuna. Lewandowski suspended for three games.

Lewandowski received a red card when Barcelona visited the headquarters of Osasuna in the continuation of La Liga at the Estadio El Sadar, last Wednesday (9/11/2022). He was sent off in the 20th minute after receiving a second yellow card.

The second yellow card was given to Lewandowski after the Polish forward was adjudged to have elbowed David Garcia during an aerial duel. Referee Jesus Gil Manzano’s decision received strong protests from Barcelona players, including Lewandowski.

As he walked off the field, Lewandowski was seen touching his nose and pointing at the referee. Lewandowski was adjudicated for mocking the referee.

The former Bayern Munich player said he was referring to Xavi Hernandez, not the referee. However, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) still added to Lewandowski’s ruling.

Reported ESPN, RFEF considered Lewandowski disrespectful and arrogant by showing this gesture. Lewandowski also received a further 2 match ban for his attitude.

Thus, Lewandowski will miss the matches against Espanyol (31/12), Atletico Madrid (8/1) and Getafe (22/1). Barcelona will appeal against the sentence.

Robert Lewandowski has so far scored 18 goals in 19 games for Barcelona in all competitions.
