JAKARTA – It’s no secret that Land it rotates at a speed of 1,609 kilometers per hour (km/hour). This is slower than the speed of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, which can reach up to 3,379 km/h.
However, according to Scientific American, earlier this year it was found that the Earth’s rotation was slightly faster so that it could shorten the 24-hour day on Earth on June 29 by 1.59 milliseconds.
The Popular Science report also claims that an increase in the Earth’s rotational speed by just 1.6 km/h will have a real impact on the entire planet.
Geographic information systems analyst Witold Fraczek said even this small speed boost would affect satellite communications and television broadcasts. Furthermore, it can also raise sea levels by several centimetres.
“With just 1 mph cutting through Earth’s rotation, our days will be just about 90 seconds shorter, nothing affecting circadian rhythms,” compiled by Slash Gear, Wednesday (11/16/2022).
“But if we suddenly jumped faster than 160 km/h, the day would be shortened by 22 hours, possibly disrupting the natural clocks of humans, animals and plants,” the report continues.
At that rate, northern Australia, the Amazon Basin and many islands near the equator will change. In these areas, the oceans can swell up to 19.8 meters above the ground as water from the northern and southern seas and oceans is pulled towards the Earth’s core.
