And the British news agency (BA Media) reported that Argentine star Maradona scored two goals that could not be missed in that match that took place in the quarterfinals of the tournament at the “Azteca” stadium in Mexico City.
Maradona controversially touched the ball with his hand to score the opening goal against goalkeeper Peter Shelton, and the referee counted it out, before scoring a wonderful goal from an individual effort in what was known as the ‘goal of the century’ .
Gary Lineker, the top scorer of the 1986 edition, managed to score the goal to close the difference, to reach his sixth goal of the tournament.
England were knocked out of the tournament by losing 1/2, while Argentina progressed to the final, where they were crowned with the tournament after defeating West Germany.
Tunisian referee Ali Ben Nasser, who officiated the match at the Azteca Stadium, owned the ball which was auctioned by Graham Budd today, Wednesday, and the initial estimate was between £2.5m and £3m.
