Musk postpones payment verification on Twitter until November 29

Washington, Nov 15 (EFE).- Billionaire Twitter owner Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that he is postponing the controversial verification of users through a payment system until November 29, after launching and subsequently cancelling.

“We will have the relaunch of Blue Verification on November 29 to make sure it is the most robust,” Musk said in his account on the social network.

Last Friday, Twitter blocked access to its Blue payment service, which for a few days had been assigning subscribers the blue symbol of the verified user, and recovered the “official” brand to distinguish some accounts from possible imposters.

The social network thus gave new impetus to try to deal with the chaos generated by the latest decisions of its new owner, which had led to a proliferation of users posing as personalities or companies.

The ability to pay $8 a month for access to the verified account symbol, which until then had marked relevant profiles whose identities were confirmed, sparked the confusion, making it easier for users to impersonate others as a joke or for fraudulent purposes.

Companies such as Nintendo, the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly or the Musk-run Tesla itself have seen how users armed with the blue verification “tick” posed for them for hours, until their accounts were suspended. EFE extension
