The ground is being prepared as part of the football academy run by the Malabar Sports and Recreation Foundation (MSRF). The land is at Perunthuruthy Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School. High quality Bermuda grass is prepared on international standard soil. Bermuda grass will reduce the risk of injury to players. Within 30 days the field grass will have fully grown. The sewerage and fencing will already be completed. MSRF President and former Goa Chief Secretary B. said the children will be selected for the academy by January. Vijayan said. Training should start by February.
The Argentinos Juniors coaches will come to Kozhikode to train the academy boys. They will stay here and train the children. MSRF will select children who excel in soccer under the age of 13. A football team called the Malabar Challengers will also be born under MSRF. MSRF’s goal is to enable the country to participate in the 2031 U-20 tournament and the 2034 World Cup soccer tournament and to have at least three Malabar Challengers soccer players in the national team. In the second phase of the operation, the children will be welcomed and trained. MSRF aims to have a residential football academy with a capacity of 400 children.
