The Undersecretary for Crime Prevention launched a new issue of the Safe Reporting Program this Tuesday, this one, in the context of the Government’s strategy to tackle crime. This initiative promotes the anonymous reporting of non-flagrant crimes.
“Denuncia Seguro” has a new number, previously it was 600 400 0101, now it is *4242. People will be able to make completely free calls from mobiles to *4242. It is a 100% safe and anonymous complaint.
The call is 100% anonymous, free and secure, whoever reports can do so 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They can also do it anonymously through the page www.denunciaseguro.cl.
The presidential delegate of La Araucanía, José Montalva, underlined one of the objectives, which is social security, and the importance of reporting these facts, “if there is no reporting in the public system, in the police or in the public prosecutor’s office, there is no there is crime, that’s why it is so important that this happens, on the one hand, so that it is investigated, and on the other, so that the statistics of the crimes that are recorded in a certain territory are collected, ” the Delegate insists that this allows for a more efficient use of the State’s response capabilities to prosecution, reparation and prevention.
What types of crimes can be reported? Possession, manufacture and smuggling of weapons; drug trafficking; Domestic violence; gangs or people dedicated to robbery; dealing in or receiving stolen goods; murders; fugitives from justice; sexual offenses against minors; vehicle theft; tampered with plates; trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants, among others.
Francisco Vega, regional coordinator of public safety, refers to the task that accompanies this new initiative, such as disseminating what has recently been implemented with the community, “we will be in each of the municipalities of the region, in the institutions , and above all in a coordinated work with the public, with the supervisory committees, the neighborhood committees, which are the first impetus in the denunciation process”.
Emphasize that this phone is anonymous and secure. No one will ask the complainant for their personal data nor will there be any recording of the call. How does it work? The person must deliver, as far as possible, all the background of the crime that he wants to report, every detail is fundamental.
Specify that this is not an emergency phone. The information is analyzed and referred to the Public Prosecution to launch an investigation, but what is the impact? The information received allowed the police to arrest drug traffickers and to break up important criminal gangs.
