Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Tuesday urged leaders of the G20 countries to consider imposing a full ceasefire in the war against Ukraine for a month over of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In his speech while attending the summit held in Bali, Indonesia, Infantino said: “I appeal to all of you to consider a temporary ceasefire for one month for the duration of the World Cup, or at least the opening of some humanitarian corridors or anything that could lead to the resumption of dialogue as a first step towards Peace”.
Russia had begun its invasion of Ukrainian territory on February 24 of this year and the war had entered its 10th month.
The 2022 World Cup kicks off on Nov. 20, and the tournament extends through Dec. 18 in the Gulf state.
