The US health company Packers Sanitation Services, which is accused of employing dozens of child workers, has been sued by the US Department of Labor. NBC reported this last Friday.

Court documents show the company was accused of employing at least 31 child workers, including a 13-year-old boy, to work night shifts cleaning at three meat-processing plants in Nebraska and Minnesota. They were responsible for cleaning slaughterhouse floors and meat-cutting machines.

In the court case filed, the US Department of Labor asked the Nebraska court to issue an injunction against the company to prevent it from hiring minors. Preliminary evidence suggests the firm may have employed more children in 400 other operations across the United States as well.
