Dr. Hossam Mowafi, professor of critical cases at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, warned against neglecting treatment of gallstones, especially small ones.

Muwafi said during his program “My Lord, raise me in knowledge” broadcast on the Sada Al-Balad channel that small gallstones can lead to blockage of the bile ducts if they move out of place.

The critical care professor added that blockage of the bile ducts prevents pancreatic enzymes and bile juices from reaching the stomach, digesting proteins and carbohydrates, and absorbing fats.

He explained that the danger of obstruction of the bile ducts lies in the possibility of causing pancreatitis in the long term, due to the reflux of digestive enzymes, emphasizing the need to remove the gallbladder, to avoid complications due to its stones.
