The festival shows the range of the genre at different locations in Darmstadt on ten festival days right into the New Year.

DARMSTADT – Although cultural work is sometimes more than difficult after two years of Corona and in view of multiple uncertainties, eight Darmstadt cultural institutions and initiatives have united again to present a diverse program of events with the “dazz” festival right at the beginning of the year to put up your feet.
The 16 events scheduled so far from January 13 to 22 in various locations show how diverse and varied jazz can be experienced in Darmstadt. “Especially in times of ongoing crisis, a good festival can be a positive social impulse. At the same time, music, especially jazz, takes our mind off things, strengthens our energy to face the difficulties of daily life and perhaps even mobilizes strength to resist the adversity of the global present”, hopes Meike Heinigk (Centralstation ), Arndt Weidler (Jazzinstitut Darmstadt) and Bernd Breitwieser (Bessunger Knabenschule cultural centre), the rope-pullers of the festival.
Musicians from all over Europe and from Israel, from Finland to Poland to Portugal, from Germany, from Berlin to Plauen and the Rhine-Main region, from Frankfurt to Seeheim present themselves. With the film “Die Große Freiheit” (music: Nils Petter Molvaer and Peter Brötzmann) and an “Evening for Sun Ra”, the organizers are setting an example of queerness, the comic reading of the pianist Itay Dvori is aimed especially at families with the children ten years ago and with pianist Vladyslav Sendecki and drummer Jürgen Spiegel two heavyweights of the European jazz scene are guests.

Private sponsors and companies can support the festival: the “My place at dazz” cushion costs 100 euros and guarantees a personal place at the festival. At the same time, participating clubs and jazz in Darmstadt are supported. The seat cushion including a donation receipt is available at the Bessunger Knabenschule cultural center, the Darmstadt Jazz Institute and the central station.
