On January 21, 2020, the KBO established a salary cap clause that will run from 2023 to January 21, 2020, for league power leveling up and continued development.

In 2021 and 2022, an amount equal to 120% of the club’s average annual amount, which is the sum of the salaries of the top 40 players (including the annual salary, the actual amount paid for options and the average annual fee of the contract for the FA) between players belonging to each club, excluding foreign players and beginners.

The salary cap is applied from 2023 to 2025, after which the cap can be adjusted to reflect the inflation rate.

If the contract exceeds the salary ceiling, an amount equal to 50% of the excess must be paid as a penalty. In case of passing two consecutive times, 100% of the excess will have to be paid as a penalty and the right to be nominated for the first round of the following year will be reduced by 9 steps.

In case of passing 3 consecutive times, a penalty equal to 150% of the excess must be paid and the right to candidacy in the first round of the following year is reduced by 9 steps.
