A man with the initials AL (21) beaten people after being shouted at as “thieves” even though they were not thieves in Pondok Pinang area, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. Police said residents rallied against AL because they were provoked by cries of “thief”.
“It’s also provocative, maybe other drivers are really theft suspects, right? In the meantime, it’s an investigation,” Kapolsek Kebayoran Lama Kompol Widya Agustiono told reporters on Monday (11/14/2022).
He said the police would looking for a provocateur the. He said the provocateur’s identity was also unknown.
“We are also investigating why later neraki he said running away. So we don’t even know his identity or hers, we’re investigating from CCTV, witness statements,” she said.
He said his group was still combing CCTV cameras around the site. He stressed that the police were still investigating the incident.
“Even if there is still a request because we can’t do it right now, we will check the request first, maybe from CCTV Dishub from local residents,” he said.
Previously, a video showing a man being beaten by residents of Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta (Jaksel) area had gone viral on social media. The man is narrated as a thief.
Start of overtaking
Agustiono said the victim and the perpetrator did not know each other. The two got involved in an argument on the road of overtaking.
“I don’t know, so the other drivers don’t know. On the road maybe what, maybe you overtake, then you overtake each other how. I asked if there was a problem before or not? Nothing to say,” she continued.

Arriving at the scene, the driver yelled at AL as “thief”. The residents then fought back and chased him until they joined AL.
“Suddenly he in front kept stopping with me ‘thief’, in the end other residents shouted ‘thief’, it was assured that they too were beaten, then they were taken to Polsek,” explained Agustiono.
Additionally, he said AL suffered bruises on his face from the beating. AL also plans to report the incident to the Kebayoran Lama police.
“He’s fine, he has a bruise on his face small and plans to make an LP (report) as well,” he said.
