Just before the middle of the third period, Colin Bilek even brought the two teams back to square one, responding to the success of Derek Lodermeier, for the favorites of the public.
The Icemen, however, took the lead with a three-goal run in 1:51. Lodermeier, with his second of the match, started this drive. Then, 85 seconds later, Cristiano DiGiacinto, who had also hit the target in the first half, gave his side a two-goal lead. Ara Nazarian completed all, 26 seconds later.
Goaltender Joe Vrbetic was a victim of the Icemen, he gave up five times on 27 shots, including four of 12 shooting in the third period. Vis-à-vis him, Olof Lindbom, only had to make 16 saves.
The local team’s masked man will have little to reproach himself for even on the first goal of the Lions, on the power play, in the first period.
Defender Alex Breton then gave himself the Bobby Orr air by carrying the puck from one end of the ice to the other, serving an opposing player a cup of coffee as well as stepping over another like an orange cone, before shaking his hands ropes.
The Lions will have a chance to bounce back Sunday in Orlando by visiting the Solar Bears.
