Divers assume it is the wreckage of the Challenger spacecraft, which spent nearly 40 years on the ocean floor. Divers were searching the site for the wreckage of one of five US Navy bombers that disappeared more than seven decades ago, but found something completely different.
However, this is no less important find, because over the past 25 years, no wreckage of this spacecraft has been found.
A Challenger flight from Kennedy Space Center nearly forty years ago ended in tragedy when the spacecraft caught fire and exploded less than a minute and a half after liftoff, killing the entire crew of seven.
