Dresden. On Friday night a heavy vehicle for Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) arrived in Dresden. The train was transported from the Bautzner factory of the manufacturer Alstom in Dresden by heavy transport. The 43-meter, 53-ton train was unloaded on Fröbelstrasse. It was then towed to the Gorbitz depot.

It is the fourth of a total of 30 that DVB has ordered.

The trams are completed at the Bautzner Alstom plant (formerly Bombardier) and then transported to Dresden with a low floor via the motorway. Here they roll on rails for the first time, because the test track inside the factory has a different gauge than the one in Dresden.

Every new tram in Dresden must first be tested and equipped with DVB’s own facilities, such as automatic ticket machines, before it can run on regular services.

Still no approval for the new tram

The new one has the number 2906. The train with the 2903 is currently in operation as a driving school in Dresden, with it the drivers learn how to use the new technology and the wider tracks in the city’s route network.

The number 2902 is not yet authorized to circulate because the new generation of trams has not yet been homologated. Since delivery in September 2021, work has continued on track number 2901. DVB is currently assuming that approval for scheduled operations will be granted around the first of Advent (27 November). Track numbers are assigned according to DVB by Alstom, 2904 and 2905 are still in the works, 2906 was finished earlier and is therefore already in Dresden. (Tg / csp)
