Puerto Rico will process official documents for Puerto Ricans in New York

San Juan, 11 Nov. The Puerto Rico government announced Friday that it will locate an office in New York to make it easier for Puerto Rican residents of that state to process official documents, without the need to travel to the island.

This comes after the governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, and the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, met today in La Fortaleza, home of the Puerto Rican executive, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). , as detailed in a press release.

“This agreement reaffirms the commitment to serve our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters who live in New York, in order to facilitate government procedures, without the need to incur additional travel expenses,” Pierluisi stressed in the note.

Hochul, for his part, stressed that because that state is one of the homes of one of the largest populations of Puerto Ricans in the United States, “it is taking steps to ensure that all of our constituents have access to vital programs, services and benefits.”

The agreement stipulates that the Puerto Rico Business Administration will locate an office within the New York Department of Labor to assist Puerto Ricans in the process of applying for and delivering documents such as birth, death, marriage and retention certificates. children, among others.

The office will also serve to validate public documents that can be used overseas and will provide guidance on the procedures and services offered by the government of Puerto Rico.

“This new office will help ease the burden of locating important papers and documents for Puerto Ricans in and around New York City,” Hochul added.
