On the 10th, it was announced that Ukrainian forces had recaptured an area of 200 square kilometers in a day after Russia announced it would withdraw from Kherson, Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian forces have advanced 7 km in the last 24 hours and resumed 12 settlements in a full day (in 9 and 10 days),” Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzny said in a telegram the same day.
Ukrainian state TV broadcast a scene in which residents welcome the entry of Ukrainian troops into the village of Snihurivka, some 55 kilometers north of Kherson’s capital, Kherson.
■ Entrance to the HIMARS range of the Krum peninsula
Currently, the Ukrainian army has recovered many of the major cities in Kherson province that have been under Russian occupation since March, and the leader is capable of attacking the Krum Peninsula, according to local media.
It is known that the High-Speed Mobile Artillery Missile System (HIMARS) can fire rockets at targets on the Krum Peninsula.
The Hi-Mars is equipped with a medium-range guided multi-rocket system (GMLRS) with a range of up to 80 km and can be launched.
It is considered to be one of the weapon systems optimized for the current battlefield situation in Ukraine and is supplied by the United States.
■ Russian Ministry of Defense “Work in progress for the evacuation of troops”
Advances in the Ukrainian army are significantly restricting the position of the Russian army, after recapturing some 500 km2 earlier last month.
“We have recovered these villages through the battle, but we have not yet confirmed whether the Russian army is actually withdrawing,” Zaluzny said on the 10th.
The day before (9th) the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it would withdraw from the city of Kherson.
The province of Kherson is a strategic strategic point connecting the Ukrainian peninsula of Krm (Crimea), which was forcibly annexed by Russia in 2014, and the eastern Donbas (regions including the provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk) controlled by land by the pro-Russian separatists.
Last month, the Russian government annexed the region along with members from Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporiza.
On the 10th, the Russian Defense Ministry declared that the evacuation of troops from the Kherson area was underway.
Russian troops are said to be moving to a prepared spot east of the Dnipro River in the direction of mainland Russia according to an approved plan.
■ “It will take at least a week”
However, the Ukrainian side said the Russian military’s move should be cautious as it could be a deception in terms of military strategy.
“Russian forces still remain around Kherson and on the western bank of the Dnipro River,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Olexi Rezhnikow told Reuters.
