November 11, 1918: the armistice is signed that puts an end to a terrible war that has caused ten million deaths and about eight million disabled. On this date, the Germans are invited to leave the posts they still occupy. Diedenhofen it’s on their list, just like Dieuze, Longwy, Metz or Saint-Avold. Their departure will take place gradually, until the first French soldiers return to the city on November 18, and more officially on November 22. In number 16 of Documents thionvillois, published in 2008, Frédéric Gaudinet evokes the liberation of Thionville, that is, the days following 11 November 1918.
