Of course, even writing such a nasty character is an art.
Do you know those characters from the series or movies that send shivers down your spine? And not in a pleasant way … Or those that make you think, “Please shut up.” Here I have a selection of some characters from movies and series that I personally don’t like very much.
And just to say that, even if I don’t find some particularly nice characters, that doesn’t mean they are badly written, quite the opposite!
Spoilers included, so beware!
1. Alex Dunphy
Honestly, I can count on one hand the number of times Alex Dunphy smiles or doesn’t make a derogatory remark from Modern Family. His character is simply super one-sided: the super smart “nerd” of the family who knows everything best and rejects everything you say to heaven. The only time I felt sympathy for Alex was when she was looking for a therapist herself, because she couldn’t cope with the enormous pressure of the school (which, mind you, she mostly takes on herself). However, the sympathy only lasts for this episode.
2. Country
If the phrase “if looks could kill” were a person, it would be Homelander from The Boys. Often it’s not the moments when he burns his enemy’s eyes with his laser vision, no, it’s the little inconspicuous moments: when he sports his extremely forced smile, slightly trembling or just plain blank. GOOSE BUMPS.
Chapeau in place of actor Antony Starr for this AMAZING performance. Because as much as I hate Homelander, I love the way his character was written. By the way: the third season of “The Boys” has just been released and is available on Amazon Prime Video! And of course the previous seasons;)
3. Gabriella Montez
What annoys me most about High School Musical’s Gabriella is that she doesn’t seem able to compromise on the slightest uncertainty (as if she and Troy will stay together after high school if they go to different colleges), she immediately runs away, breaking up with Troy rather. than to try.
4. Jim Halpert
Yes, I know. At first glance, Jim Halpert would probably be dismissed as a nice and funny guy. Opinions are likely to be different here. But every time I look at The Office, I see new qualities in Jim that just don’t work. For one thing, he’s SUPER bad towards Dwight, who obviously isn’t careless even when it comes to the constant pranking between the two of them, but let’s be honest: compared to what Dwight comes out of, Jim’s pranks are a lot nastier. ..
In the first season, for example, Jim convinces Dwight to buy a women’s bag from saleswoman Katy and tells him that they are also extremely popular, especially among men. While Dwight chooses the bag, Pam and Jim make fun of him. Sure, the whole thing is funny, but it’s also very bad, right? But what bothers me most is that she DELIBERATELY lies to Pam about her new job and makes her think she won’t take her offer, only to end up doing it all of a sudden. NOT WELL.
5. Salt of Veruca
Uff, I’m really sorry for the parents of super spoiled Veruca Salt from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (2005), who just has to have EVERYTHING …
6. Todd packer
Whenever Todd Packer appears in an episode of The Office I can’t stop rolling my eyes. Guy throwing sexist comments and jokes around DELIBERATELY drugging the office in the form of redemption cupcakes? WTF ?! The boy is just lousy. EW.
7. Dolores Umbridge
Okay, so if you really like Harry Potter’s Dolores Umbridge, you MUST have one on your cone!
8. Joffrey Baratheon
Similar to The Boys ‘Homelander, Game of Thrones’ Joffrey Baratheon gives me a slightly grumpy feeling. Joffrey is simply the epitome of the “spoiled little mom son” who is, however, also extremely brutal and sadistic !!! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t breathe a sigh of relief when he died.
No wonder Joffrey made our list of Game of Thrones most hated characters.
9. Rajesh Koothrappali
Here’s another opinion that I’m sure not everyone will share, but: Rajesh “Raj” from “The Big Bang Theory” really annoys me. In my opinion, it brings absolutely nothing to the series, except a few jokes here and there and some “funny” encounters with women, who always follow the same pattern: he will not be able to say a word from a woman as soon as he confronts himself and then tries to Do it Compensate for alcohol to finally sleep with a woman … Just boring.
10. Joe Goldberg
Joe Goldberg from the Netflix series “You” is probably the epitome of “Pretty Privilege”: sure, he’s really cool. This is probably why Joe (played by Penn Badgley) has been so too romantic since the show first aired. Countermode reported that fans even tweeted things like “please kidnap me” or “what about him?” Penn’s response: “He is a killer”. And what’s more, damn brutal and selfish.
And it’s pretty pathetic too, considering the amount of time and effort he takes just to make his victims fall in love (stealing his cell phone, breaking into his apartment, killing his chosen one’s boyfriend, etc.) Joe is just a completely insane stalker. and cunning who (literally) walks on corpses.
11. Lily
Sure, your mom’s Lily has her strengths too, but have you ever noticed how she continues to manipulate Ted’s relationships just because she doesn’t like or get along with the woman by her side? From this point of view, Lily is indeed quite childish. Also, do you remember that episode where Lily steals from Ted’s boss to “teach him a lesson” and Ted nearly loses his job as a result? Who does such a thing? Oh, and there’s his shopping addiction, which he doesn’t tell Marshall …
12. Spencer Hastings
Ugh, Spencer’s know-it-all attitude pissed me off INCREDIBLY! Plus, she approaches everything and everyone with such a negative attitude and is too quick to judge those around her. And this without knowing if their assumptions are correct! She constantly monitors everyone and has to show her “knowledge”.
13. Azura
The Fire Nation Princess from “Avatar – The Last Airbender” should really go into therapy and deal with her childhood trauma. But no, she instead she tries to kill her brother Zuko and anyone who gets in her way. Evil character you just can’t like, just my opinion.
14. Daenerys Targaryen
Uff … Really hard piece. At first I was amazed by Khaleesi’s courage to lead her own battle, free the slaves from slavery and seize the throne … in the spirit of girl power! YES!
But what path does he then take and how his character becomes more and more power-hungry, selfish and extremely cruel REALLY shocked me! This is how you can fool yourself! But what bothered me the most: this constant rattle off on all the titles of their names. Okay, Daenerys Daenerys Daenerys of the Storm of House Targaryen, before her name, Queen of the Meereen, STOP! WE HAVE CHECKED IT!
15. Carrie Bradshaw
Sure, I only know of the Sex and the City movies and a few episodes of the show, but that was enough to cross Carrie Bradshaw off my list of “movie characters I like”. I don’t know either, her whole behavior seems so out of this world and unapproachable – surrounded by money, sex, designer clothes and champagne. In my eyes, she seems rather aloof, selfish and not particularly loyal. She eventually betrays her on her boyfriend Aidan. thumbs down for that.
16. Carlo Minatore
In the fifth season of The Office, we see Charles Miner (played by the wonderful Idris Elba) as a replacement for a failed employee. And as funny as the series is, Miner’s character isn’t funny! Honestly, even laughing gas resists him! He acts like he’s ultra professional and needs to scold his “submissive” employees. Time to get the stick out of your ass, Charles!
17. Dirty
OH MY GOD! This pink teddy bear from “Toy Story 3”, which initially looked very cute, really got on my nerves! How can you look so cute but be so mischievous ????
18. Queen George
It really lives up to the title of the movie “Mean Girls”. Regina George is as self-centered and conceited as she can be. Being her friend must be a real test.
You can read where Regina ranks on our list of the greatest bad girls of all time here.
19. Brian Griffin
Yeah, I know not everyone has “Family Guy” humor … and that includes me. On the front line: the slightly perverted dog Brian, who I just don’t find funny for the best will in the world!
20. All characters played by Adam Sandler.
This is not a fictional character, but actor and producer Adam Sandler. However, I think it deserves a place on this list. Simply because I can’t watch a movie where Sandler is in without wanting to shut down after a few minutes. His character is more or less the same in all of his films (the rich white man makes jokes at the expense of others, attracts younger models). Even his jokes are superficial and simply not funny.
If you watch the movie “My Fittitious Wife” you’ll know what I mean: super rich beauty doc Danny (played by Sandler) poses as an unhappy husband to hook up wives (wtf), but then he needs a “real” wife when his scam threatens to be exposed. Perfect that his assistant Katy (played by Jennifer Aniston) looks like a normal mother of two in her forties, so he can easily play the role of “fake” wife. Then, of course, comes Katy’s almost expected grandiose transformation into a real sex bomb, which Danny eventually falls in love with. Please, no more than this.
