The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the European Union has called on Europe to address the energy crisis in a way that is acceptable to ordinary people this winter.

Episcopal Committee of the European Union against rising inflation and the energy crisis. In a statement released by Monsignor Anthony Herod, president of the episcopal commission for social affairs, he highlighted the need for solidarity between countries and the struggle to build energy together.

Uncontrolled inflation and the energy crisis

The energy crisis and the rise in prices are among the most important problems that the old European countries have to face in recent months. The press release of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the European Union recalls the need for European countries to be united without any compromise on these two issues that have seriously affected ordinary people. The Catholic Church has informed the European Union that it is concerned that the European people, angry at the rise in prices, will fall into the abyss of poverty.

War and associated energy crisis

The Russia-Ukraine war that began on February 24 this year has truly shocked ordinary people. The unscientific decisions made by countries regarding the import and export of energy without discussing and building alternative systems have led to a major crisis. A miserable situation has ensued from small industries to large industries that have stopped. The Bishops’ Committee has also called for effective ways to overcome this energy crisis that has driven many people to suicide.

The social dimension of the Church and its teachings

In view of the Church’s social policy to become the voice of the poor, the Episcopal Committee invites all European countries to stand together, recalling that it is the duty of every government to guarantee justice and peace and to pay particular attention to the disadvantaged people in society.

Economic benefits and energy savings

The Council of Bishops advises the European Union to distribute resources equally to all by eliminating social inequalities, prioritize energy efficiency and identify targets for responsible reductions in energy consumption.
