News from the NOS

The morning broadcast of NPO Radio 2 will not pay attention to the World Cup in Qatar, which will start in about a week and a half. Presenters Jan-Willem Roodbeen and Jeroen Kijk at de Vegte made their decision this morning during the broadcast, following statements by World Cup Ambassador Khalid Salman. He said in a German documentary that homosexuality is a form of brain damage.

In a radio conversation about the interview, Roodbeen called this outrageous statement. “It’s no surprise, but it’s piling up. I tend to ignore the whole World Cup more and more.”

Later in the broadcast, the two presenters returned, following the positive reactions of listeners. Roodbeen then said that he thinks it is better to make a statement in the Netherlands than in Qatar. “Then they might even be able to keep their backs straight at the KNVB.”

Subsequently, Roodbeen and Kijk in de Vegte decided not to mention it in the program.
