PSSI unveiled the Jakarta International Stadium (HE) which was once called up not according to FIFA standards as an option for the Indonesian national team in Indonesia AFF Cup 2022.
JIS became PSSI’s choice with Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor for the choice of the home match of the red and white team. As is known, the Indonesian national team will participate in the 2022 AFF Cup in December.
Previously, it was reported that the Indonesian national team could not use the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) as the venue for the 2022 AFF Cup. This is because SUGBK had to be sterile before hosting the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
Confirmation that JIS has been proposed as a candidate for the Indonesian national team was relayed by PSSI general president Mochamad Iriawan or Iwan Bule during a working meeting with the DPR X Commission in Jakarta on Tuesday (8/11).
“Yesterday we proposed two posts in Pakansari and JIS,” said Iwan Bule.
Interestingly, JIS was once expected to be one of the arenas for the Indonesian national team’s FIFA Matchday against Curacao on 27 September. However, PSSI said it would not use JIS and made Pakansari Stadium and Patriot Chandrabaga an option.
PSSI states that JIS is not up to standard, so FIFAMatchdays cannot be organized. Building infrastructure, parking and rental prices that are considered too expensive are the reasons why PSSI removed JIS from the list of arenas.
The cancellation of the PSSI sparked reactions from various groups, including supporters on social media.
Ultimately, JIS was not chosen by PSSI. Two test matches against Curacao took place in the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api and Pakansari stadiums.
The 2022 AFF Cup will take place from 20 December 2022 to 16 January 2023 with a home-away system.
The Indonesian national team is in Group A of the 2022 AFF Cup with Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam.
