WhatsApp Vice President of Global Affairs and Strategic Markets Victoria Grand said that WhatsApp makes money thanks to the premium features of its WhatsApp Business service. According to him, WhatsApp offers various solutions and integrations to businesses through these premium features.
“Well, the way we can raise money is that they (WhatsApp Bussines users) can increase their business opportunities with premium features. Victoria gave an example: An airline can use the WhatsApp Business network to support their business. You explained that there is a feature in the form of automatic sending of messages to provide digital boarding passes to passengers.
“There we will charge a fee for the message so that the boarding pass can be sent,” Victoria said.
The airline can also ask WhatsApp to provide services to consumers in the form of chatbots to answer questions about schedules or airline tickets.
“Or they want to do customer service by asking for flight schedules or tickets and have to pay us for the integration,” Victoria explained.

A small study from Victoria also shows that 7 out of 10 people in Indonesia say they prefer to text on business rather than email.
