Datteln-Hamm canal

Any help came too late: a 44-year-old man allegedly had an accident in Lünen on 31 October. The water police could only save him dead from the Datteln-Hamm canal. According to the police, the man is a 44-year-old from Lünen, who lived there without a permanent address. Henner Kruse of the Dortmund public prosecutor’s office has now confirmed this fact. “He regularly spent the night in Lünen’s men’s quarters.”
Police and rescuers learned of the missing person through a tip from a walker. The passerby noticed an empty fishing chair. The agents also found a bicycle and a cart on the bank of the canal.
High blood alcohol level
The Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has taken charge of the investigations, is currently still awaiting the definitive outcome of the autopsy. However, Henner Kruse has already confirmed the information provided by the police that there is no evidence of third party negligence.
“The dead man was found with a high blood alcohol level,” the prosecutor said. Therefore, there are currently two hypotheses about the course of events: either the 44-year-old fell into the canal due to his alcohol level or he suffered a medical emergency such as a heart attack. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.
