RTL 4 closes the year once again with Guido Weijers’ New Year’s conference. It is the eleventh time that the comedian does it for television. According to RTL, this is a record.
Television director Peter van der Vorst says Weijers “always manages to surprise the Dutch viewer with his original insights into the ups and downs of the last year”.
“2022 will be characterized by crisis and polarization in all kinds of areas,” says Van der Vorst. “That is why perhaps it is more important than ever that the pressure be relieved on December 31st. Guido’s humor will certainly help us in this.”
Last year, RTL did not broadcast a Weijers conference. At the time, the comedian halted his preparations more than a month early due to the uncertainty surrounding the crown situation. Weijers’ latest New Year’s conference in 2020 attracted nearly 1.3 million viewers.
This year’s NPO New Year’s conference will be hosted by Claudia de Breij. She previously she did it in 2016 and 2019.
