Juris Ābols was a personal event, a personal event, a personal adventure. To call Juri Ābolas a composer is somehow not enough. Her first solo concert took place a couple of weeks before his death. Juris Ābols was born on April 16, 1950.
We listened to the original “Pure Apple” concert in the Latvian Radio I studio on October 12, 2020. A few weeks later, we found out that Juris is dead. Nobody knows what day. Abols lived alone in his small white house in Ziepniekkalns and died alone.
The composer said that evening to the leader of the 12 October concert, Dāvis Enželis: “A complete 360-degree turn has been made: from the harmony task to Dadaism and then again, slowly approaching a chorus of eight classical voices and harmonies. It is a natural path. And I am completely satisfied with it. Because everything has been achieved. All that remains is magarichas, as the gypsies say “.
In his music he is a descriptor of the Gobi desert, a researcher of elephants and mice, an expert in normal physiology, a connoisseur of political erotic games, a contemplative author of crystalline motets, a scribe of the Livonian Chronicles and Crusades, a seer of zodiac signs and a waidelot of all sorts of other things he loves to write letters. Not a step without the famous spotted hat on his head.
