“Bulgaria was very late and continues to lag behind in its decision to provide military aid to Ukraine. After eight months of hesitation, giving the Defense Ministry an additional deadline to say what it can provide seems frivolous to me.”
He commented on this in “On Fire with Lora Krumova” by NOVA former Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov.
What weapon can Bulgaria give to Ukraine?
It also touched on Ukraine’s demands for the MiG-29 and C-300 systems and opposition from the interim president and defense minister:
“We have help from outside, from NATO member states to provide air control. When we cannot use the MiG-19 for Bulgaria’s needs, we find help from NATO. This could continue if we supply aircraft to Ukraine.”
“We needed the MiG-29s when we cannot replace them with other aircraft. Furthermore, all the specialists in the sector say that in a few months they will be out of use. If the Ukrainians could return them to airworthiness and use them in war, it would still be more useful. For these few months we will not be able to take back the MiGs, and there will be no way for the arrival of the new F-16s. Not only to get rid of them to get rid of them, but at the same time to help Ukraine, “Svinarov said.
At first reading: Bulgaria will provide military aid to Ukraine
According to him, even if the entire F-16 squadron of 16 aircraft arrives, we will have more than ten times fewer aircraft than neighboring countries.
“If we give the MiGs, we are unlikely to significantly stop things. We will have the opportunity to adequately obtain spare capacity from NATO member states. Rearmament is a costly action,” Svinarov added.
