Customers with technical knowledge can obtain parts and tools directly from Apple or from authorized independent resellers (through Apple). And since it’s now easier than ever to replace iPhone components, you may be concerned if the parts you purchased are fake. Or, if you’ve bought a used iPhone, you may also want to make sure it’s not repaired with non-genuine Apple parts.
Check the maintenance log
Prior to iOS 15.2, the iPhone only showed pop-up alerts if it had fake Apple parts. But in newer versions you only see messages like “Can’t verify iPhone has original Apple display” or “Original Apple Camera”. But with the latest updates, the iPhone keeps a detailed record of parts and surgery history. The repair history will only appear if your iPhone has been repaired or serviced. To check this, you will need:
I open the settings.
Go to the general.
Click Information.
Find the Parts and Service History section.
When an iPhone has original parts, each component will be listed as original Apple, along with details like the installation date. If repairs are made using counterfeit Apple parts, poor service, or unexpected hardware behavior, the component will be marked as “Unknown Part” with a warning icon. This is a sign that the part is fake.
Check the liquid contact indicator
Apple ships all iPhones produced since 2006 with liquid contact indicators, and the indicators are located behind the SIM card tray on the latest iPhones (but they were in the headphone jack on older iPhones). The liquid contact indicator is usually silver or white in appearance and turns bright red when exposed to liquid or water, indicating water damage to the device.
Ask Apple to check the device
One way to make sure your iPhone doesn’t contain fake parts is to visit the Apple Store. Apple Support or an Apple Certified Assistant will fully evaluate your iPhone. And their rating should reveal whether your iPhone has been repaired or repaired with genuine or counterfeit Apple parts. To have your iPhone tested for counterfeit parts, submit an evaluation question on the Apple Store.
