ČEZ will raise prices up to three times for customers whose fixation ends

Long-term energy pricing for several hundred thousand ČEZ customers will be completed at the end of the year. For some of them, the prices could increase up to triple compared to the new year. So far, these customers have paid less than the current overall average. CEZ CEO Daniel Beneš told Czech Radio – Radiožurnál. Prices will also rise for customers with expiring fixes from other energy companies in the country.

The new prices for households or small and medium-sized enterprises should certainly not exceed a price ceiling set by the government, which will be valid from January. According to Beneš, without it, prices for families would be up to double.

Bad news for Fiala. Electricity in the Czech Republic has become the most expensive in the EU

The average price of electricity in the European Union increased significantly by 15% year on year in the first half of the year. In the Czech Republic, growth was the highest at 62%. The Czech Republic is followed by Latvia (with an increase of 59%) and Denmark (plus 57%). This is apparent from the data published by the European Statistical Institute Eurostat. The rise in energy prices is greatly affected by the Russian military aggression in Ukraine.

In this regard, the manager of ČEZ recalled that this increase is also due to the fact that these customers have so far paid much less than others and the overall average.

Energy prices will fall, Beneš believes

At the same time, the company will adjust the offer of contracts with price fixing, and only for one year, or for an indefinite period. “We think prices may go down in the future, so long-term products don’t make sense right now“He explained.

At the same time, Beneš stressed that none of the households or other entities for which the government has approved price limits for energy will pay more than the specified limit. The government has set it at 6,000 crowns for one megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity including VAT and 3,000 crowns for one MWh of gas. Distribution fees must be added to this. At the same time, according to the head of ČEZ, it was necessary to accept the maximum prices set by the government, because without them, according to his estimate, the prices could be double.
