At least 38 people were injured in a fire in an apartment complex in the Manhattan neighborhood of New York. According to the CNN news channel, at least two people are in critical condition and at least five others have been seriously injured.
Authorities suspect the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery. These batteries are often used in electric scooters and e-bikes. According to firefighters, six people died this year from fires caused by this type of battery.
The footage shows a woman rescued from the 37-story building. She was dangling from the window and the firefighters helped her with the ropes in an apartment below. It is unclear if she sustained any injuries.
In addition to the woman, another person was rescued, firefighters told CNN. The ropes were also used for that rescue.
Authorities believe that the residents of the apartment where the fire broke out were repairing bicycles. The fire probably broke out just behind the front door.
