The increase in cases of influenza, gastroenteritis and covid has led the French National Academy of Medicine to recommend wearing a mask indoors.
“The coronavirus is changing, the vaccine is no longer able to fight this pandemic and neither is the flu,” said Yves Buisson, epidemiologist at the Academy of Medicine for Europe1.
If Covid infection is on the decline, other seasonal viruses such as influenza and gastroenteritis are on the rise. That’s why the National Academy of Medicine recommends returning to an almost forgotten accessory: the protective mask.
According to the Academy, wearing a mask in public transport, pharmacies or other shops is a test of common sense, of self-protection, but also of protection of the people around us.
The National Academy of Medicine in France fears a new wave of Covid that could coincide with the spread of the flu. In these conditions there could be a co-infection – coronavirus and flu -, which could generate many and serious cases, but also a new overload of hospitals and medical staff.
